Boom Chicka Boom

Hello Everyone!

I said, a where did May go Chicka Rocka Chicka Rocka Chicka Boom and now its June!
May was David's birthday month, but cancer schmancer, we celebrated!
A little glow in the dark putt putt golf, topped off with an Eagles concert, some fishing with friends and a quick family photo shoot. Vogue's been calling…possible fall issue.

Good friends, good food, a few stories, a few lies!

May brought the first chemo break. As we continue to wage war against cancer, we’re doing our best to keep the remaining healthy cells in David, intact. So when the caution flags started popping up on the biweekly blood work, we hit the pit for refueling and took a much needed chemo break.

David was back to the oncology infusion suites in late May and early June. He continues to have chemo treatments biweekly. To gage how successful we are winning the combat a PET/CT scan was ordered for June 7, 2018. The scan would be compared to the previous one done in February.  We had agreed with the oncologist that the results would be discussed at the next appointment before chemo. Which was a week post scan. I’m not sure why we ever agreed to this…..after the scan we realized it was going to be the longest wait ever! Less then 24hrs after the test, we couldn’t take the wait.

We dove into David’s medical record online to see if we could glean anything on the scan. So happy to see that Dr. Shohara couldn’t wait to share the news with us either!  He penned a quick note to tell us that the scan shows that ----wait for it….. chemotherapy's working!!! and to enjoy the weekend!
Lots of happy dancing ensued!

Today was our visit with Dr. Shohora to discuss the results of PET/CT scan, lots of giggles, smiles and silliness happening with today’s visit. Dr Shohora told David that he doesn’t typically see such a positive response to this type of cancer at this stage – boom chicka boom!

Summary – the lesions (cancer cells) in the hip area aren’t lighting up under the scan any longer and the cancer cells are diffused in the upper stomach. David just blew up the first of many statistics!
This was such great news!! Dr Shohora was drafting his paper for Clinical Cancer Research!

David didn’t  have chemo treatment today however because his blood didn’t recover enough from the last round or it could be related to the glass of red wine he had the night before the blood draw.. his discharge summary states no alcohol 3 days before chemo. Back to the hot chocolate for DC!
Of course we have more road to travel, I’m sure this crew will drift outside the lanes for a thrill ever now and then!

What does this mean and what will happen after 12 completed rounds of chemo?? It’s a bit unknown, there isn’t good research in maintenance therapy, so we maybe pioneers as we get to that crossroad, but we’ll get there friends!

Until the next time all – we’ll see you when we see you!!

Please know the joy and laughter we experience with all of you, even during the worst of times, feeds us, keeps us strong and gives us the feeling of hope!

I said a Boom Chicka Boom oh yeah!
xoxo
